Arrowtown Pool Party
An Arrowtown golden anniversary will be celebrated with a public pool party this weekend, special events and arts facilitator Jan Maxwell said.
“Sunday will mark 50 years of swimming at the Arrowtown Memorial Pool and everyone is invited”, she said.
The special day would be marked with the raising of the New Zealand Flag on the newly established flagpole at the war memorial pool.
“After 50 years it was considered to be high time to recognise that the pool is a memorial pool,” Ms Maxwell said.
Members of the local RSA had been invited to attend the flag raising which would be followed at 10am with the gates being thrown open to the community for a free day.
“We will have music and some special pool toys to mark the day, with free entry from 10am to 7pm,” Ms Maxwell said.
Later in the evening former coaches and community volunteers would join with former employees and those associated with the pool over the years to enjoy a poolside function to round off the day.
“It’s an opportunity to bring those people together to share stories and reflect on what has been a real community facility,” Ms Maxwell said.
