Heart of District Awards Nominations Rolling in
A number of inspiring nominations have been received for the 2005 Queenstown Lakes Heart of the District Awards, QLDC communications manager Meaghan Miller said.
“I have received 11 excellent nominations and expect the traditional late run up until nominations close,†Ms Miller said.
In particular the Council was keen to receive nominations in the youth category.
Previously this had been a strong category with some incredible recipients, including New Zealand mountain bike champion Scarlett Hagen.
“The youth section is wide open. For example nominees could be outstanding socially, culturally or in the area of sport,†she said.
In addition to nominations in the six categories of: youth, arts, landscape and urban design, business, environment/heritage, social and cultural, the Council wanted to hear about members of the community deserving of a Civic Award.
“We use the Heart of the District Award evening to also recognise those people who have dedicated a large part of their lives to the community,†Ms Miller said.
The award evening, scheduled to take place this year at Queenstown on November 18, would once again take the form of a celebration with wine and food and local entertainment, the costs covered through a modest ticket price.
“During the evening we profile each and every finalist and present them with a beautiful native tree, whilst the category winners receive a framed award and the hand made brass and wood Heart of the District trophy to keep for a year. Our Civic Award winners receive a framed certificate and a huge bouquet of flowers,†Ms Miller said.
It was an ideal opportunity to acknowledge the work of that individual who had always gone the extra mile.
Nominations closed on Friday, October 28. Nomination forms could be picked up at Queenstown and Wanaka Council offices or downloaded here,
