Wakatipu Christmas Tree
The Council is calling on the young people of the Wakatipu to help decorate the Council Christmas tree.
"Not only is this a very special tree, it's absolutely enormous and we need some help with the decorations," QLDC communications manager Meaghan Miller said.
The Council had tripled its commitment to Christmas decorations district-wide and the staff had also got into the spirit.
"We were offered this tree by the trustees of the late Margaret Templeton's estate. Margaret, who for many, many years attended every Council meeting as a community watchdog, would always kindly give the staff a Christmas shout, so in a way it's still a gift from Margaret," Ms Miller said.
The Council wanted children to make one very special Christmas decoration with the only criteria being something to hang it from.
"We are inviting the children of the Wakatipu to come in to the Gorge Road office, above the library and hang their own decoration and help us to make this a real community Christmas tree," Ms Miller said.
Adults were also very welcome to come in and hang a decoration and Wanaka children were more than welcome to take their decoration into the Wanaka Council office on Ardmore Street to be hung on the tree there.
