Wakatipu Skatepark Debate
The playing field has widened for the possible location of a Wakatipu skate park.
“Having weighed feedback from Queenstown Recreation Reserve users the Council adopted the Queenstown Recreation Reserve Management Plan late last month. The plan does not include a skate park being developed on the central Queenstown site,” Queenstown Lakes District Council parks director Paul Wilson said.
Instead, the Council resolved to evaluate seven other sites and seek feedback from skate park users and the wider public.
The sites were: the Queenstown Gardens, One Mile, St Omer Park, Queenstown Events Centre, Warren Park, City Impact Church land at Frankton and the Youth Hostel reserve
“A report on the potential sites is now available at the Council and X-it or can be viewed on the Council website www.qldc.govt.nz,” Mr Wilson said
The public was also invited to a meeting to discuss the sites and or any alternatives on Thursday, 27 April at 5pm at the Queenstown Memorial Hall.
“I’m looking forward to some good debate about the location,” Mr Wilson said.
Written submissions (attention Paul Wilson) can be emailed to or posted to Paul Wilson QLDC Private Bag 50072 Queenstown to by 5pm May 1, 2006.
