Ziptrek Ecotours Flying Foxes
Fully guided Ziptrek Ecotours take guests on an inspiring journey through the forest via a series of observation platforms and flying foxes. The flying foxes operate on cables anchored between treetop platforms. (Trees are not at all damaged in their ‘tower’ role.) Guests are outfitted with a climbing harness then attached to the cable with a pulley. At each aerial launch platform, guests step off the platform to soar down the cable. While attached, guests can freely move around and position themselves in various ways (upside down for example) to take in the view from any angle they choose. Between flying foxes, Ziptrek guides offer an interpretive adventure with a strong ecological focus.
Ziptrek Ecotours was founded in 2001 in Whistler, Canada when two life-long friends and entrepreneurs, Charles Steele and David Udow, came together to create an adventure ecotourism business. Trent Yeo, an Australian by birth and New Zealander by residence, joined the company as an employee and soon committed to a partnership that would open a Ziptrek operation in Queenstown, New Zealand.
