The Queenstown Lakes District Council is continuing to deliver on its Affordable Housing Strategy, adopted in June this year.

“The next step has been to appoint a senior policy analyst with the ability, experience and confidence to drive the project through the next key stages,” QLDC planning and strategy manager Vicki Jones said.

The council was delighted to attract senior planner Scott Figenshow, currently based in Los Angeles.

“Scott has had extensive experience, working in the United States in the community housing sector with a focus on seeking innovative solutions and fostering positive relationships between councils and developers. He also has a strong affinity with the Queenstown Lakes District and owns a home here,” Ms Jones said.

The key tasks that Mr Figenshow would be required to deliver from the strategy included:

  • Establishing the Community Housing Trust.
  • Developing a Memorandum of Understanding with Central Government.
  • Working with the business community to develop financial models in terms of providing housing.
  • Working with developers to secure voluntary contributions for housing.

Initially the position, which would commence in the first week of October, would be part time.
