Queenstown rafting company Family Adventures welcomes aboard festive families, work colleagues and holidaymakers this summer with an exciting Christmas package and quality tourism endorsement.

Those on the ‘floating adventure’ activity can enjoy a leisurely raft or kayaking trip down the upper reaches of the famous Shotover River, followed by a three-course Christmas BBQ at the company’s Pipeline Base in stunning Skippers Canyon.

Suitable for ages three to 103, Family Adventures is a locally owned and operated company that specialises in taking family, small group and conference group trips on a ‘soft’ expedition-style adventure with rapids graded at just 1-2.

Owner/operator Mark Forsyth said the special Christmas holiday package was the perfect opportunity for younger and older group members to enjoy outdoor fun in an unchallenging environment.

“Family Adventures puts emphasis on discovering the area’s wonderful backcountry, history and gold-mining relics,” he said. “Non-swimmers or those with no water experience or confidence are perfectly suited to it, and because of its gentle nature it’s ideal for teaching agility, teamwork and a sense of adventure.

“It’s also a great opportunity for everybody in the workplace to get together and celebrate the festive season with a great outdoors activity.”

Mr Forsyth, a qualified raft guide for 14 years, is currently undergoing training with Skills Active to become an independent assessor, enabling him to carry out assessments on his staff at Family Adventures.

“We’re the only raft company in Queenstown licensed to carry children under 13 years old. We employ a team of professional rafting guides with a range of international and New Zealand experience, and safety is always our highest priority,” he said.

Family Adventures recently became a Qualmark-rated activity – New Zealand tourism’s official mark of quality.

With rock jumps, rapid swims and hard-to-get-to photo opportunities, there are plenty of fun experiences along the trip. All clients need to bring is a towel, a camera and some togs.

“We supply all the professional safety equipment, transport and fun,” said Mark.

A shuttle departs twice daily from The Station building in central Queenstown. Each trip takes approximately five hours.

A Family Adventures trip costs $169 per adult and $110 per child. Bookings can be made online at www.familyadventures.co.nz or by calling 0800 472 384. For Christmas Package Bookings please phone 03 441 8929.
