The $21 million upgrade of the Queenstown Airport Terminal has made excellent progress with Stage 1 now complete and Stage 2 due for completion at the end of June in time for the busy ski season, Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Clive Geddes said.

Stages 1 and 2 incorporate the final forecourt layout and passenger arrival pick up and departure set down area.

Remaining Stages 3 and 4 (landside layout) had now been approved for construction by the Council.

“It’s a credit to the Queenstown Airport Corporation and project managers Arrow International that this project has been delivered to date, both on time and under budget,” Mr Geddes said.

Projected expenditure for the remaining Stages 3 and 4 was $11 million dollars with Stage 3 programmed for completion in mid November and Stage 4 in March 2007.

“I consider that the completed landscaping and traffic control will complete the transition of this terminal into one of the most attractive airport entry and departure points in New Zealand,” Mr Geddes said.

Landside works for Stages 3 and 4 include:

  • New bus pick-up area.
  • Ring road and round-about at Lucas Place (to be completed December 2006).
