Queenstown hotels: where to stay
Queenstown hotels, and how to choose between them. What staying in town buys you over Frankton, when to book for ski season, and the quieter months.
Where you stay here mostly decides how much you walk. A hotel in the town centre puts the waterfront, the restaurants and the gondola within a few minutes on foot, and the car can stay parked. Frankton and Kelvin Heights are quieter and closer to the airport, but you will want a car or the Orbus bus to get in and out.
It is worth deciding that before you compare rooms. A lake view from the wrong side of Frankton Arm is a different holiday from a lake view on Marine Parade.
When to book
Two stretches sell out: ski season from June to September, and high summer from Christmas through January. For either, book months rather than weeks ahead. April, May, October and November are the easiest times to find a room and the town is calmer with it.

Apartments suit longer stays and families. There are also motels and lodges, holiday homes and backpackers and hostels.
