Extreme Green Rafting runs full-day white water trips on two rivers, both starting from a base in central Queenstown.
Shotover River
Ten rapids, graded 3 to 5 depending on river levels, finishing with a run through the 170-metre Oxenbridge Tunnel. Allow four to five hours end to end: transfer to the base, into the gear, up the Skippers Canyon road to the put-in, a safety and paddle briefing, the river itself, then hot showers, a sauna and a drink back at base.
Kawarau River
Graded 3 to 4, the Kawarau carries the biggest commercially rafted volume of water in the country and includes the Chinese Dogleg rapid. The trip follows the same shape as the Shotover — four to five hours, put-in down in the Gibbston Valley, showers and sauna at the end — and suits a first raft trip better than the Shotover does.
