RealNZ (formerly Real Journeys) runs three day cruises and one overnight cruise on Milford Sound.
If you are driving yourself to the fiord:
- Signature Cruise - two hours on the Milford Haven or Milford Mariner, with a guide on board talking about the wildlife, from $175
- Classic Cruise - one hour forty minutes on the Sovereign or Monarch, app commentary in several languages, the easiest one with children, from $169
- Premium Cruise - two hours on the Sinbad with a five-course tasting menu, from $389
If you would rather not drive the Milford Road, the coach-and-cruise day trip from Queenstown is a twelve-hour day, from $292, in glass-roofed coaches with stops along the way. The same trip from Te Anau is seven hours, from $249. A Business Class version runs from either town, from $699.
The Overnight Cruise sails on the Milford Mariner: dinner cooked on board, kayaks or the tender out before dark, and a night at anchor in the fiord, from $669.
The road in is long and the weather changes fast - a wet day in Milford is worth having, not a write-off.
