Matakauri Lodge now operates as Rosewood Matakauri, managed by the Rosewood group while keeping the quiet, residential feel the Robertson family built it around. It sits off Glenorchy Road a short drive from Queenstown, in native bush above Lake Wakatipu.
Accommodation runs from lodge suites to villas - up to a four-bedroom villa of 405 square metres - most with private terraces facing the lake. The Dining Room serves a menu built on local produce alongside a deep wine list, and the Remarkables Terrace takes lunch outside when the weather plays along.
The spa pavilion has treatment rooms, plunge pools, a cedar sauna, an outdoor pool and a fitness centre.
