Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen is the winery restaurant and cellar door on the Arrowtown-Lake Hayes road, a few minutes out of Arrowtown, in the cottage and gardens that traded as Akarua Wines & Kitchen by Artisan until the Akarua wine brand was sold.
The kitchen has not changed hands: executive chef John Pickens and his wife Debbie, the pair behind Artisan Catering, still run it, cooking from scratch with South Island produce. The cellar door now pours Mora and RUA Central Otago wines from the Bannockburn and Pisa subregions, with guided tastings — and half-pours for whoever is driving.
There is a kids' menu, and the public bus from Queenstown stops right outside. Open 9am to 5pm, seven days, closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Bookings are essential.
