One MICHELIN Star, twenty minutes out at Lake Hayes

Amisfield sits in a stone building on the Arrowtown–Lake Hayes road, twenty minutes from town and about ten from Arrowtown. It took One MICHELIN Star in the 2026 guide, in the Innovative category.

The wine comes from Amisfield's own certified-organic vineyard beneath Mount Pisa, out at Cromwell — the vineyard itself is closed to the public, so this is where you drink it. The kitchen works with what is local, seasonal and often wild: Central Otago produce, game, foraged and preserved ingredients, put together with more theatre than most.

There are two quite different ways to eat here. By day it is the Cellar Door and Bistro, à la carte, from 11.30am. By night it is the Restaurant, which does one dinner-only tasting menu and nothing else. Both run Wednesday to Sunday, both need booking, and the evening runs to about four hours — do not plan anything after it.

Award: One MICHELIN Star, MICHELIN Guide New Zealand 2026.
