Margaritas and tequila on the first floor at 4 The Mall - classic, spicy, coconut and mezcal versions, plus a deep agave back bar. Thu-Sat from 5pm.
Tommy's Margarita Bar is what Attiqa on The Mall became, and the brief is narrower than the one it took over: margaritas and tequila, upstairs, Thursday to Saturday.
The margarita list covers the classic and Tommy's own version of it, along with skinny, spicy, coconut, almond and mezcal. If you would rather not start there, the cocktail list runs to a paloma, a negroni, an old fashioned, a south side, a mojito and an espresso martini. The back bar is sorted the way a tequila drinker would sort it — blanco, reposado and añejo, with a shelf of mezcals alongside — and the staff are happy to talk you through it, which is most of the reason to come.
There is no food menu, so eat first and come here after. Doors from 5pm Thursday to Saturday and it runs late. The room takes private functions for up to 50 through the enquiry form on their site, and Tommy's is one of Republic Hospitality's Queenstown venues, so it sits inside the Republic Social Club loyalty programme.
