Degustation and a long lake view at Fernhill
Nest is the restaurant at Kamana Lakehouse, high on Fernhill Road above the western end of town. The room is art deco, floor-to-ceiling glass, and it faces straight down the Whakatipu towards the Remarkables — which is the argument for booking before dark rather than after. MICHELIN listed it as Selected in the 2026 guide.
Dinner is either a three-course menu or a degustation, built on Central Otago producers with foraged herbs and wild ingredients worked through it. The lounge bar next door is worth staying in afterwards: suspended fireplaces, a long list of New Zealand gins, and Central Otago cellar wines.
Breakfast is open to people who are not staying, and is one of the better ones in town.
Two practical notes. There is no restaurant sign on the road — look for the hotel name. And it is a five-minute drive or a steep walk from the centre, so work out how you are getting back before the second bottle.
