Mediterranean tapas and the lamb shoulder, on the lakefront.
Momentos took over the Beach Street site from Pedro's By The Lake, and kept the thing people came back for — the slow-roast lamb shoulder that made Pedro's House of Lamb a local habit.
The kitchen has widened out from Spanish tapas to the broader Mediterranean, borrowing from Spain, Italy, France and Portugal. Garlic prawns cooked in Spanish olive oil with a hint of chilli, patatas bravas, paprika-crumbed calamari, West Coast whitebait in season. Larger plates run to grilled venison and eye fillet, and the lamb shoulder is still the one to order for the table. Sangria by the jug if the sun is out.
It opens at 8:30am, so it works for breakfast and brunch as well as dinner — the daytime menu runs until 3pm.
It sits on the lakefront, so the Wakatipu and the Remarkables do most of the work. The window and outside tables go first on a still evening, so book if you want one.
