Kobe Cuisine is the Japanese restaurant at Millbrook Resort, just outside Arrowtown: blonde wood, big windows, and a view out over Lake Hayes, Arrowtown and the Wakatipu Basin.
The menu is contemporary Japanese designed to be shared, built on local produce alongside Japanese ingredients — sushi and sashimi, small plates and dumplings, grilled meat and seafood. Tables of two are seated at the teppan grill and watch the cooking happen in front of them; groups of eight or more eat the Taste of Kobe set menu. There is a considered wine list and a range of sake to go with it.
Open daily from 5pm, and worth booking. A complimentary shuttle runs from central Queenstown and from Arrowtown's Main Street, which solves the drive home.
