Wood-fired pizza in a 1933 church at Frankton
Sundays is out at Frankton on Hansen Road, in a church built in 1933 that was relocated to the site and restored. It took a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide — one of only three in the Wakatipu, alongside Aosta and The Cow.
The wood-fired oven is the centre of the room and the menu. Neapolitan-style pizza on house sourdough bases is the thing to order, with shared plates alongside — Royalburn lamb meatballs, wood-fired vegetables, whole flounder — and a snack menu if you have only come for a drink. The pecorino churros have a following.
It works well for a group and unusually well with children: there is a lawn, a playground, an outdoor fireplace and a small farm next door, which buys you an hour. Comfortably the most relaxed thing on the Queenstown MICHELIN list, and cheerfully so.
Wednesday to Sunday, from midday. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Book at weekends.
