NZONE has been running tandem skydives over Queenstown since 1990, from a rural drop zone about twenty minutes from town on a private airstrip away from the main airport. You check in at the shop on Shotover Street and a courtesy coach takes you out.
There are three heights, and what changes between them is how long you spend in freefall.
- 9,000 ft — up to 25 seconds of freefall. From $359.
- 12,000 ft — up to 45 seconds. From $449.
- 15,000 ft — up to 60 seconds. From $549.
The climb to altitude takes 15 to 20 minutes, and after the canopy opens there are another three or four minutes to look at the lake, the Remarkables and the Shotover on the way down.
Practical detail
- Age: from six years old
- Weight: minimum 40kg; over 95kg, talk to them before you book
- Clothing and gear: all outer clothing and equipment supplied
- Booking: jumps run to the weather, so book early in your stay and leave room to move it
