Central Otago Rail Trail

Just an hour away from Queenstown, in Clyde, is the start of the Central Otago Rail Trail - "New Zealand's Original Rail Trail."

The trail follows the old railway between Clyde and Middlemarch, stopping in at Chatto Creek, Auripo, Wedderburn, Kokonga, Rock and Pillar, Alexandra, Omakau, Ida Valley, Ranfurly, Tirotiti, Ngapuna, Galloway, Lauder, Oturehua, Waipiata and Hyde.

The trail is walkable (5-7 days) or cyclable (3-5 days). Self guided tours are possible, or you can take advantage of one of the tour companies who package guided tours with accommodation.
