Big-vertical Wānaka ski area, 550 hectares across four basins.
Treble Cone looks down on Lake Wānaka from the Mount Aspiring Road. It has the longest vertical rise in the Southern Lakes — around 700 metres — across 550 hectares, and a reputation for dry snow and long descents that keeps people driving over the Crown Range for it.
The mountain spreads across four basins: Home, Saddle, Matukituki and Summit Slopes. Home Basin holds the groomed runs and the learners' ground. Saddle Basin is where the off-piste terrain that made Treble Cone's name sits, and it opens and closes with the weather — high wind will shut it while the rest of the mountain keeps turning.
Beginners are better served than the reputation suggests. The learners' slope near the base building is wide and gently graded, has snowmaking, its own lift, and is groomed every night.
Treble Cone and Cardrona are run together by RealNZ, and a season pass covers both. The 2026 season runs 27 June to 27 September. Storms can close the access road at short notice, so check the mountain report on the morning you plan to go.
