One tasting at Kinross covers five independent Central Otago growers you would otherwise spend a day chasing around the valley: Hawkshead, High Garden, Kinross, Valli and Wild Irishman. The cellar door sits on the Gibbston Highway in the middle of a working vineyard, and opens 10am to 5pm daily, with the last tasting at 4.30pm.
The bistro runs 11am to 5pm every day, last orders 4.30pm, on a menu that follows Central Otago's seasonal produce. There is an evening takeaway menu if you want to eat later — order by 4.30pm, pick up by 5.15pm. A 15 percent surcharge applies to food and wine on public holidays.
Behind the cellar door are the vineyard cottages, set among schist ruins and old trees, for anyone who would rather not drive back to town afterwards. Check-in is 3pm to 5pm and checkout 10am, both flexible if you ask.
Buy by the glass in the wine garden, take a bottle with you, or have a case shipped home.
