Food lovers, bargain hunters and Christmas shoppers in search of an original last-minute gift will be in seventh heaven with the opening of the Remarkables Market on Saturday December 4.
Remarkables Park will officially launch its summer weekend market as a new Saturday morning shopping experience for people in the Queenstown Lakes district. It will be a place where people can browse, shop, enjoy a coffee, or have brunch in a sunny location with 360-degree mountain views.
A highlight of the market will be the stall run by Simon Tiefenbach of Wanaka’s Deep Creek Delicatessen. Last week he won the Supreme Award at the 2010 Great New Zealand Sausage Competition for his Pork and Fennel gourmet sausage. His sausages also won three golds and one silver award.
Running every Saturday (except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) from 8am to 1pm, the Remarkables Market will continue until the end of April. Housed in and around a red farm barn, the market will be easily found approximately 100 metres further along from the main entrance to Remarkables Park Town Centre.
The European-inspired market will feature independent artisans, foodies, growers, vineyards and farmers, selling fresh seasonal produce and locally- produced high quality crafts.
Among those already confirmed are 3 Little Rascals, Bonjour Café from Arrowtown, Jackson Cupid Coffee Cart, Crisp & Vale, Snag Man, Peonies2U, Dam Good Fruit, Big Fat Cherry Company, Southern Jewels, Gourmet Kitchen, Fresh Fish Brothers, Waitiri Creek, Mayo Homewares, Ngara Nifty Notions, Sarah Ryder Design, Precious Peonies, Simply Crafty Gift Design and Amalka artisan sourdough.
Delectable delights on offer will include locally produced sausages, cheese, cured meats, French bread and pastries, free-range eggs, as well as cupcakes, locally-made Christmas cakes and chocolate brownies.
Arts and crafts include jewellery, kitchen and giftware, wooden toys and retro kid’s clothing.
The Remarkables Market has plenty of parking immediately adjacent to the market and is within easy walking distance of the Remarkables Park Town Centre for those travelling by bus.
“It looks set to be a hugely popular Saturday morning event for locals and visitors to the region,” said Remarkables Park Special Projects Coordinator Olivia Porter.
She said the market would welcome musicians and buskers looking to provide entertainment, and there were plenty of opportunities for clubs, schools and not-for-profit organisations to fundraise.
Remarkables Market is still accepting applications from traders but recommends people register early to guarantee their place. Vendors can secure their stalls in advance for either 10-weeks, 20-weeks or on a weekly casual basis.
