Entries are now open for the 3rd TrustPower Adventure Quest, a unique mini adventure race in and around Arrowtown.

The TrustPower Adventure Quest is an event designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and exploration of Arrowtown's stunning natural environment.

The race will be held on Saturday 1st October. Starting in the heart of downtown Arrowtown, teams will head out into the surrounding Arrowtown hills on foot and bike in search of orienteering adventure clues.

The event last year had a good number of entries. Southern Traverse race director Geoff Hunt is delighted to be able to offer sports men and women across the South Island a fun and unique race.

This is the first time the race has been staged in Arrowtown and he believes everyone who enters is going to discover areas they have never explored before.

"The trails and water races reminents from the Gold Mining era link up to make an exciting course around the golden hills of Arrowtown. The clues will be themed along these lines.

"It is encouraging that locals and out of towners alike find the concept interesting and challenging. The mix of orienteering, mountain biking and walking with the opportunity for competitors to chose their own route and the time frame they compete in is appealing to all levels of competitors."

Armed with a map and a set of clues teams of two are tasked with solving the clues and locating hidden tags. Each tag bears a word that needs to be recorded. Maps and adventure clues identifying where the tags are hidden will be distributed at registration for teams to pre-plan their chosen route.

Competitors will travel around the hills of Arrowtown, collecting as many clues within the six hour allotted time.

There are two entry levels to ensure the race is achievable whatever level of fitness and experience teams are at; the adventure category for the accomplished multisport athlete and the social category for those with a medium level of fitness who may just be starting out and want to enjoy the treasure hunt aspect while still having fun.

Returning as naming right sponsor, TrustPower is pleased to be associated with the event and to have the opportunity to encourage the community at large to participate in healthy outdoor activities.

"The TrustPower Adventure Quest is an innovative and exciting event, which attracts people to the Queenstown district during the region's shoulder season. We are delighted to be a part of this event, which is a perfect fit with TrustPower's policy of having direct involvement in the communities where it operates. The TrustPower Adventure Quest supplements TrustPower's other Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago sponsorships, such as its Community Awards, the Alexandra Blossom and Arrowtown Autumn Festivals, and the Wanakafest.

"The TrustPower Adventure Quest has been hugely successful over the last two years, and we are confident that it will be bigger and better this year. It is an event which caters for the competitive athlete, first-time adventure racers as well as families and social teams - making the TrustPower Adventure Quest an event from which the entire community can benefit," says TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Pip Tschudin.

The TrustPower Adventure Quest is supported by TrustPower, Placemakers, SKYCITY Queenstown Casino, New Orleans Hotel, Wallace & Gibbs and MoreFM.

TrustPower Adventure Quest entry forms will distributed to the mailing and are also available at all good sports stores, sponsor outlets and the Southern Traverse office.
