Lakeside grill at Hilton Queenstown on Kelvin Heights, open daily 6am to 11pm
Wakatipu Grill is the restaurant at Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa, on the water at Kelvin Heights, round the bay from town. It is a grill first — beef, lamb and fish over fire — with Central Otago produce running through the rest of the menu, which changes with the season.
The room is built around an open kitchen and two circular slate fireplaces, and the tables look out across the lake. On the terrace there is an outdoor fire pit that earns its keep once the sun drops behind the range; a glass of Central Otago Pinot in front of it is the point of coming here rather than eating in town.
Open daily from 6am to 11pm, so it covers breakfast through to dinner. Worth booking for dinner in summer and through the ski season.
